At first glance, Matthieu Martin’s productions set resistance to the sight.
At the edge of the visible, his sculptures, photographs, paintings and videos suggest the ambivalence between the will for an economy of means and the unexpected wealth of the plastic work: the plan of a base imperceptibly tilts, an adhesive strip comes to force the space, this stone mounted on wheels refers to the art history… we are set in front of the expanded field of sculpture and its movements, in both literal and figurative senses.
Instead of plainly using it, Matthew transforms and captures the aesthetics of everyday objects and traces.
